What is multichannel urodynamics?
Multichannel urodynamics, or a urodynamic evaluation, is an office procedure that takes about 10 minutes to perform. During the procedure, a tiny catheter is inserted into the bladder and rectum to measure pressures as the bladder is slowly filled with water.
Why is multichannel urodynamics done?
With multichannel urodynamics, we can obtain information on how the bladder is functioning during both bladder filling and emptying. We also collect information on what happens to the bladder during coughing and straining maneuvers. Many symptoms and conditions can be diagnosed with the results of this procedure, including urinary incontinence and frequent urination.

- Urine leakage
- Frequent urination
- Urgent urination
- Problems starting a urine stream
- Problems emptying the bladder completely
- Neurologic conditions affecting the bladder
Patients are asked to arrive at their appointment with a full bladder.
